Summary:
Find an advertisement (print, video, or digital) or
a movie speech from
www.americanrhetoric.com. Analyze it using the firs
t five chapters. Pay attention to the use of
language, argument, and visuals. When applying a co
ncept, define it and indicate what the
concept enables you to say about the text. The pape
r should present and support a clear thesis.
You may need to write a longer draft and edit down
to 3 pages.
The assignment may be re-
written for a better grade in preparation for the s
emester paper.
Paper Length and Format:
3 to 4 pages, double-spaced with 1” margins on all
sides and a standard 12-point font (Times
New Roman, Arial, Calibri, Cambria, Helvetica, Geor
gia, Tahoma, or other standard system
default). Paper length refers to the length of the
substantive body of text, and does NOT
include the works cited or cover pages. Do NOT writ
e more than 4 pages – I will not read (or
grade) anything past 4 pages.
The paper should be in APA style with a running hea
der on each page, a title page, the paper
body, and a works cited page at the end. You do NOT
need an abstract for this assignment. Use
footnotes for citations.

your own words) and explain in detail what the conc
ept enables you to say about your subject.
Pay particular attention to the use of language, ar
gument, and visual elements in the
advertisement or movie speech that you have chosen.
Be sure to address and analyze each of
