As a young African-American, I look past the discouraging education statistics for my culture, focusing instead on making a difference for one child at a time. To reach a new level on understanding the development of children, I believe a Masters degree in School Psychology is the next step before ultimately pursuing a doctorate (or PhD) in child psychology. My interest for School Psychology began when I was in an educational psychology class my sophomore year of college. At this particular point in my college career, I loved working with children and was currently working at an after-school program in the Mid-Town Houston area. My professor mentioned to the class about the ability to work in a setting to help children academically as a teacher, emotionally as a counselor or crisis interventionist, socially like a social worker, and psychologically like a psychologist. As my professor mentioned each category of this profession, I grew more and more eager to acquire more information about the field. By accepting my application,
the University of Texas San Antonio is not only fostering the academic
development of a hardworking student, but also enriching education
opportunities for African-American children. I currently work as a lead education specialist
under a grant program called Texas ACE program. This after-school program
allows me to influence and study the academic foundation [AH1] and
behavior of at risk children in the Houston school district. As a young
African-American, I look past the discouraging education statistics for my
culture, focusing instead on making a difference for one child at a time.
To reach a
new level on understanding the development of children, I believe a Masters
degree in School Psychology is the next step before ultimately pursuing a doctorate
(or PhD) in child psychology[AH2] . My
interest for School Psychology began when I was in an educational psychology
class my sophomore year of college. At this particular point in my college
career, I loved working with children and was currently working at an
after-school program in the Mid-Town Houston areaClick here for more on this paper.......

the class about the ability to work in a setting to help children academically
as a teacher, emotionally as a counselor or crisis interventionist, socially like
a social worker, and psychologically like a psychologist. As my professor
mentioned each category of this profession, I grew more and more eager to
acquire more information about the field. After class I approached my professor
about the field that she mentioned and she believed that with my experiences in
after-school programs and my academic ethic that I can be an impactful school
psychologist. Ever since this day I have been involving myself in school
settings and after-school programs to gain expertise in knowledge of the school
system.
My
experience encompasses teaching children aged 4-12 which ranges from working in
the classroom as a STEM teacher to teaching life skills
and enrichment classes to pre-k, 1st grade-3rd grade, and 5th grade-8th grade. I currently
work as a lead education specialist under a grant program called Texas ACE
program. As an Education Specialist I help teachers develop and plan lesson
plans for grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Under the Texas ACE
program I also buy materials for projects, prepare and serve a healthy snack to
approximately 70 children, tutor for Mathematics and Science within an hour
called “Homework Help”. This after-school program allows me to influence and
study the academic foundation [AH3] and behavior of at risk children in
the Houston school district[AH4] . In
December 2013, I will earn my Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in
Human Consumer Sciences with emphasis in Child and Family Development.Click here for more on this paper.......

my Child and Family development minor program, I will have accumulated over 100 hours of
volunteered hours at several preschools in the Houston area[AH5] . My
volunteered hours not only let me observe what children experience in a natural
class setting but help me understand how to implement what I learned and studied
in my classroom and apply that knowledge in a preschool setting. My minor in
Child and Family development not only pushed me to work with several preschools
in the Houston area but also taught me the importance of involving relevant
fields of study to my understanding and teaching ability. Working
under a non-profit for four years, I personally have grown to specialize in
working with at-risk children in school systems. [AH6] Through my
efforts at a non-profit my success was recognized when
I was invited to work with a panel to prepare and conduct workshops for child
sexual abuse in Houston, Texas and Dallas, Texas[AH7] .
Attending
the University of San Antonio Masters program in School Psychology will help me
achieve certification to work in a school setting, test for children abilities
and disabilities, counsel students, and develop curriculum for teachers in the
classroom. Click here for more on this paper.......
Click here to have a similar A+ quality paper done for you by one of our writers within the set deadline at a discountedI am motivated to apply to the University of Texas San Antonio
School Psychology program because of the programs high standards on learning to
consult and aiding children with crisis intervention techniques. Another reason
why I am motivated to study under the School Psychology program is because the
program has emphasis on children becoming well-rounded students, and requires
their graduate students to intern through a school setting to gain experience.
I believe the School Psychology programs emphasis on learning crisis
intervention techniques and consultation methods is beneficial to me because I
have limited experience in these topics and I feel with the a program like
University of Texas San Antonio School psychology program, I can learn and
apply what I’ve learned to my future career at a school district. I am also
motivated to study under the field of School Psychology at the University of
Texas San Antonio because it’s focus on developing children through crisis
intervention, academic counseling, behavioral assessment, and improvement in
teacher-parent relationships for the student.Click here for more on this paper.......

students will develop in multiple aspects, which in turn will inspire me to
continue working in the field of School Psychology. Lastly University of Texas
San Antonio School Psychology program having their grad student’s intern at
elementary schools during their program motivates me because I personally enjoy
outside experiences from the classroom. In elementary schools, interning
through the School Psychology program will help me gain a better understanding
of what can be learned through a textbook. I believe that the School Psychology
program at San Antonio, will further develop my learning and understanding of
children, provide me with the in-school setting experience through interning,
and that through accepting my application, University of Texas San Antonio
School Psychology program will promote a talented educator and a hardworking
scholar.
[AH1]Not
sure this is the right word. Academics?
[AH2]Make
the first sentence of each paragraph the CONCLUSION of that paragraph. So in
this sentence you need to say something about your experience. Maybe something
like:
My strong volunteer, teaching, and counseling
experience helps me positively influence at-risk children.
Save what you
have written for the next paragraph.
[AH4]I
think this stuff could be moved to your second paragraph. Here I think you need
to have short sentence about why your
interest started and then move on.
[AH5]Make
“volunteered” the verb in this sentence. Also, you need to give some analysis
why this volunteer work makes you special, how does it change your perspective?
How will it make you a better Masters student?
[AH6]Just
make it sound like that’s your expertise.
[AH7]Change
it from “rewarded an opportunity” to something like My success was recognized
when I was invited to…Click here for more on this paper.......
