COOP FINAL REPORT.pdf COOP REPORT SAEED AL-SHAHRANI I COOP Final Report Distribution Network Systems Saudi Electricity Company-Southern Operation Area Done By: Name: Saeed Saad Al-Shahrani ID#: 200816560 Coop Advisor: Dr. Ibrahim El-Amin 21 October 2013 Collage of Applied Engineering Electrical Engineering Department COOP REPORT SAEED AL-SHAHRANI I ABSTRACT The main components of the distribution network systems are explained in details in this report. Distribution systems may have voltage drops due to the excess feeder length, heavy loading or the size of cables. This report suggests solutions to such cases by adding capacitor banks and voltage regulators to the networks. Oil filled transformers may develop faults due to weak insulations resulting in transformer fires. This report suggests solutions to such incidences and how to avoid them. To maintain a transformer in a substation, it is practical to transfer all the loads to the other transformer. This operation may produce a flashover at the transformer end and consequently a blackout incident if the cable is aged or has poor quality of insulation medium. A case of such incident with solutions is mentioned in this report. Sulfur hexafluoride circuit breaker consists of a connection plug to operate the recharging spring, protection relays and control devices of the breaker. If they are connected incorrectly, the pins of the plug may be damaged and the then the breaker will not operate. A case of such incident with solutions is mentioned in this report. COOP REPORT SAEED AL-SHAHRANI II ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS First of all, I am grateful to Dr. Ibrahim El-Amin, my COOP advisor, for the support helps and guidance that he gave me during my COOP period and in writing this report as well.
