PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS II(MACRO)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an introductory continuation of Principles of Economics I. Topics include supply
and demand for the public sector, financial institutions, and aggregated economic behavior. The
latter includes discussions of national income accounting, and an inquiry into the origins and
dynamics of inflation, unemployment and economic growth.
RATIONALE
ECNC 214 teaches students about the structure of the economy and the interactions among its
different sectors so that they can make good economic decisions, whether for self or public
benefit.

IV. MEASURABLE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
A. Analyze three basic macroeconomic problems: business cycle, unemployment,
and inflation/deflation.
B. Distinguish various macroeconomic policies that may stabilize the economy.
C. Identify the sources of economic growth.
D. Know the financial relationship between the U.S. and other countries.
E. Read macroeconomics articles in the Wall Street Journal.ECNC 214 Syllabus

F. Understand biblical principles for macroeconomics.
G. Use the aggregate demand and aggregate supply models to analyze
macroeconomic problems.
V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS
A. Textbook readings and presentations
B. Discussion Board Forums (4)
Students will complete four Discussion Board forums throughout the course. In
each forum, students must choose a topic from a list and write a new thread
containing 3 or 4 well-crafted paragraphs. In the thread, students must cite an
article from at least 1 of the following resources: The Economist, Fortune, or the
Wall Street Journal. Then, they must reply to at least 2 classmates’ threads in 1 or 2
paragraphs each. Also, students must format their posts and cite their source(s)in
APA style. The thread is due by Friday night of Modules/Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7; the
replies are due by Monday night of these modules.
C. Bible Projects (4)
After reading various chapters from the Stapleford text, students will answer all of
the Discussion Questions at the end of these chapters in a new Word document.
Bible Projects 1–4 are due in Modules/Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7, respectively.
D. Wall Street Journal Project
Students will read 5 articles from the Wall Street Journal, each covering a
different subject addressed in the course. They will then write a 1-page review of
each article. Students must combine all their reviews into one Word document for
submission. The Wall Street Journal Project is due by the end of Module/Week 8.
E. Exams(4)
Students will take 4 open-book/open-notes exams covering various chapters in the
Gwartney textbook. Each exam contains 40 multiple-choice questions and must
be completed within 2 hours. Exams 1–4 must be taken by the end of
Modules/Weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8, respectively.
