Preparing the Speech
For this assignment, you will draft your presentation using the subject you chose in Week 1.
The presentation draft should include the following:
  • Title slide
    • Include your name and the title of the presentation.
    • Notes are not needed for this slide.
  • Introduction slide
    • Introduce your presentation.
      • Include your opener.
      • Include your thesis.
  • 1 slide for your first main point
    • Include supporting points.
  • 1 slide for your second main point
    • Include supporting points.
  • 1 slide for your third main point
    • Include supporting points.
  • Conclusion slide
    • Restates the thesis, and summarize the key points of the presentation.
    • Be sure to leave your audience with a final thought.
  • Reference slide
    • Include the sources that were used for your presentation in APA format.
    • Notes are not needed for this slide.

1. You are ‘expanding’ the outline you created in Phase 1IP.
a. Same topic you chose in Phase 1IP

2. The outline in the task list has a word count requirement. YOU DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE WORD COUNT. I am not interested in the word count because it is not important.
a. This will be explained in the live chats.
i. Speeches are delivered in ‘minutes’ and not number of words.
1. Your speech in Phase 4IP should be ‘3-5’ minutes.
3. You are writing an OUTLINE
a. Not an essay
b. Not a ‘manuscript
i. You will be deducted for not submitting an ‘outline’
4. You should have ‘3’ main points:
a. Introduction- 1 minute
b. Main point 1- 1 minute
c. Main point 2- 1 minute
d. Conclusion 1 minute
i. ALL = 5 minutes
5. Use ‘Word’ templates for the outline
a. Google it if you don’t know how
6. Your outline should look something like this:
EXAMPLE OUTLINE:
Introduction: Are you afraid of giving a speech? Do you feel like you are going to faint? Many people are like you. Today I am going to talk to you about public speaking fears, how to get over them; and tips for speaking success. (thesis statement.)
1. Main point – public speaking fears
a. List whatever they are ‘and’ references’
2. Main points 2- how to get over them
a. List whatever information ‘and’ references
3. Main point 3- tips for speaking success
a. List whatever information ‘and’ references’
Conclusion: As you have learned today I provided you with much information about public speaking. I told you about public speaking fears, how to get over them; and tips for speaking success. (recap thesis)
Your outline should look like this although probably have much more content since you will be speaking 3-5 minutes.
