3.1 Generally speaking, in what type of situation would inferential statistics be more useful than descriptive statistics?
3.2 I agree that car companies could use survey research as part of their product development cycle, however, when I read your response, I do not see a strong correlation with use of mean and standard deviation for supporting business decisions. Please explain how would you use mean and standard deviation to "to compile what the consumer wants".
Also, I am not sure how you propose to use inferential statistics in a practical situation. Generally speaking, in what type of situation would inferential statistics be more useful than descriptive statistics?
3.3 Yes, it is a requirement that probability (random) samples ares used for any parametric test of hypothesis to be valid. Why do you think probability samples are prefered over non-probability samples? What are we trying to avoid by using probability sampling?
3.4 Sampling is definitely a way to go in this particular situation. The question is, how large a sample would we need? What does our E-Text say about calculation of sample size? Please research this topic and share your findings.
